Nigeria’s Northern Governors on Thursday met with the National Security Adviser (NSA), the two Ministers of Defence and the nation’s Service Chiefs, agreeing on new options to tackle the resurgence of kidnapping in the region.
The meeting, held at the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA), was called to address the recent spate of kidnappings in the region, especially the mass abductions of schoolchildren and women.
Chairman of Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, told journalists after the meeting on Thursday in Abuja that the meeting attended by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Defence Ministers, Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, reviewed the security situation and agreed to adopt alternative options to tackle it.
The Governor said the alternative options would be different from the what they had been doing before.
Yahaya said the Governors were disposed to supporting both kinetic and non-kinetic options to address the security challenges.
“Already the military and all other security agencies have been doing their best.
“What we need to do is to change style, especially adding the non-kinetic approach, so that at the end of it when we join the two, we’ll have a better security situation in the country,” he added.
