DHQ: How Lieutenant Died During Ambush in Borno State, Says 6 Terrorists Killed in Gun Battle

Defence Headquarters has given insights into the killing of one Nigerian Army Lieutenant during an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists along Biu-Buni Yadi road, Borno State.

The troops were ambushed by the Boko Haram terrorists at Kamuya, a village close to Buratai, the home town of a former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd), while on their way to Damaturu to buy fuel.

Explaining that the military neutralised six of the terrorists involved in the attack, Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said that Nigerian Army troops reinforced immediately and levelled the terrorists’ hideouts within the Timbuktu Triangle.

General Buba also said that four other personnel, who were injured during the encounter, are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Earlier reports had claimed that six soldiers were killed in the attack which happened on Friday.

But giving an update on Sunday, General Buba noted that the remaining terrorists in that axis are currently in disarray following aggressive pursuance by the troops.

According to him: “On 5 Apr 24 at about 09:35hrs, Troops of Operation HADIN KAI encountered terrorists’ ambush along Road Buratai-Buni-Yadi.

“Sadly, during the encounter, troops lost a Lieutenant who was killed in action. While four personnel were wounded in action and receiving treatment.

“Troops reinforcement pursued the terrorist to their hideout within the Timbuktu Triangle and made contact.

“Troops neutralised six of the terrorists recovering 5 AK 47 rifles and 103 rounds of the 7. 62mm special ammunition.

“The remaining terrorists ran in disarray. However, troops are in hunt of the remnant terrorist that fled the firefight.”
