Bandits Back On Abuja-Kaduna Highway, Kill Driver, Abduct 2 Passengers

Bandits appear to be staging a comeback along the Abuja-Kaduna highway as they shot dead a driver, simply identified as Danladi Jobe, and abducted two others.

A resident of Katari, Yahuza Alhassan, told our correspondent on the phone on Monday that the incident happened on Sunday around 9:33 pm at Dogon-Fili, a few kilometers away from Jere town.

He said the deceased was returning from a neighbouring village market when the bandits suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the car, killing the driver instantly.

Alhassan identified one of the victims whisked away as Shuaibu, a farmer, adding that the bandits took away N980,000 cash from him (Shuaibu).

“The bandits after killing the driver, now went after the man, who is a farmer and dispossessed him of N980,000 cash, before they now whisked him away alongside one other person from the car into the bush,” he said.

Sources also confirmed that a similar incident occurred last week when suspected bandits opened fire on a commuter Hiace bus near Gadan-Malam along the same highway and whisked travellers on board into the bush.

Spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansur Hassan, has not responded to calls or a text message sent him about the incident as of the time of filing this report.
