A member of the House of Representatives from Borno State, Ahmed Jaha, has called on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to engage foreign mercenaries in tackling insecurity, claiming that the Nigerian security forces have failed.
Jaha, who represents Chibok/Gwoza/Danbuwa Federal Constituency said on Tuesday while reacting to a motion moved by Obinna Ginger that the call has become necessary because foreign mercenaries almost wiped out the Boko Haram insurgents during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Borno Federal lawmaker stated that former President Muhammadu Buhari was wrongly counselled to have expelled the mercenaries in 2015, adding that insecurity has spread to other parts of the country.
Jaha said Nigerian security forces failed to address insecurity despite the billions of naira spent.
The House of Representatives, he said, must present a clear position on the deployment of foreign mercenaries.
“The mercenaries almost wiped out the Boko Haram insurgents during Jonathan’s administration but Buhari sent them out of the country,” he said.
During the administration of President Jonathan, mercenaries were invited from South Africa to lead the the charge in the fight against insurgents.
