Release Of Nnamdi Kanu Will Separate Genuine Biafran Agitators From Criminals, Says South East Labour Party Causes

Members of the South East House of Assembly caucus of Labour Party (LP) on Saturday said the release of  Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will help to douse tension in the region and separate genuine Biafran agitators from criminals unleashing killings, kidnapping and other criminalities in the zone.

The caucus, in a communique signed by 11 lawmakers and read by the leader of LP caucus in the zone, Hon. Jude Umennajiego, in Awka, Anambra State capital, insisted that the “release of Nnamdi Kanu will separate genuine agitators from criminals in the business of kidnapping.

“We therefore, lend our voices in appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, so as to douse the current ravaging insecurity in the zone.”

The Caucus said the  insecurity in the South East has grounded the economy of the region and has occasioned unprecedented loss of human lives as well as destruction of property.

According to him, Kanu’s release will act as a healing balm to the region and also encourage the feeling of oneness as a nation.

The LP South East House Caucus also appealed to Governors of South East region and indeed the whole nation to work towards granting  full financial autonomy to the State Houses of Assembly in accordance with the constitution and the Principles of Separation of Powers.

According to him, granting full autonomy   to state house of Assembly will go a long way in ensuring more robust assemblies, thereby enhancing their functionalities in the area of law making, oversight and other attendant legislative duties.

He  urged the Federal Government to ensure the quick resolution of the current minimum wage impasse.

According to him, with the current economic reality and astronomical increment in the prices of goods and services, it would be wrong for the government not to hearken to the voice of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union  Congress (TUC) who represent the voice of the suffering masses.
