COAS: “Support Government, Security agencies For Safety And Prosperity in Nigeria” – Statement

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has urged law-abiding citizens to continue to support the government and security forces in the effort to make Nigeria safe and prosperous. He made the call on Thursday 29 August 2024, while declaring closed, the Chief of Army Staff Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2024 held at the Council of Chiefs Hall Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

General Lagbaja reassured Nigerians of the Nigerian Army’s resolve to continually collaborate with sister services and other security agencies to ensure security of lives and property across the nation. He averred that the conference afforded various theatre and formation commanders the opportunity to provide insights on the activities of their forces, with a view to better position their operations for positive results.

“We also utilized the conference to finetune our last quarter activities for the year, particularly as we transit to the popular ember months of the year” he retorted. He further noted that the feedback from the various commanders in the field was encouraging, adding that the prevailing security challenges facing the nation though daunting, are surmountable, reassuring that we are indeed on the right path to victory.

In recognition of the contributions of senior level commanders, who were posted out of command recently, the COAS presented the Nigerian Army Formation Command Appreciation and Recognition Plaque to three senior level commanders, namely Major Generals HG Tafida, GM Mutkut and MT Usman.

General Taoreed Lagbaja appreciated the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinibu for his trust in the Nigerian Army’s leadership and the unwavering support to the service. He reassured of the unflinching loyalty and commitment of the Nigerian Army to the country’s constitution and promotion of national interest and values.
