As the Anambra State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) prepares for next year’s Governorship election, there are palpable fears on the intention of the shocking defection into the party of Chief George Muoghalu, the former National Auditor of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Insiders within the LP says it is worried that the APC might have sent Chief Muoghalu as a fifth columnist to disorganize the party, win or lose the nomination as the Governorship candidate. The LP is favored to win the 2025 gubernatorial election in the State in 2025.
A cross-section of Labour Party chieftains who spoke to the Global Upfront Newspaper (GUN) exclusively feared that the Nnewi-born politician might be on a hatchet mission to disorganize and distract the party in order to pave way for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, who is romancing with the APC in order to run on its platform following the proctracted crisis in his All Progressive Grand ALliance (APGA).
Chief Muoghalu is said to be consulting to pick the ticket of the Labour Party for the 2025 gubernatorial election, but many Obidient Movement members who form the core of LP in Anambra State say it is not possible.
“We hear he wants to run for Governor in LP. But I don’t see how that is possible, coming from APC to pick our ticket. It’s not going to work,” an Obedient declared to our Correspondent in Awka, preferring not to be mentioned for now.
Another Obidient was even blunt: “APC man cannot pick our ticket. We have credible Obidients who can be Governor and who is even better than Chief Moghalu. Why go for a Tokunbo when you have a torn leather?”
One of the leaders of Obidient warned that “Chief Muoghalu has been dropping the name of Peter Obi as the person dragging him to come and pick the ticket, but we know our leader well. He cannot destroy what he built.”
The candidates lined up in the Labour Party for the Anambra Governorship race are the front runner and the 2021 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer Chief Valentine Ozigbo, Paul Orajiaka, Tony Nwoye, George Muoghalu, John Nwosu, Barth Nwibe, and Chuma Nzeribe.
Meanwhile, GUN gathered that the embattled Governor of Anambra State, Soludo, is romanticizing with the ruling APC either to pick their ticket in next year’s gubernatorial elections or have a working understanding if he gets second term ticket from his crisis-ridden party, the APGA.
The sudden death of the front runner for the APC ticket for the Anambra poll, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has created a vacuum for Governor Soludo to exploit.
