Nigeria: 4-day Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference Begins Today

The four-day Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2024 begins today Monday December 16, 2024 at the Nigerian Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.

The event, the first to be hosted by Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, will provide an essential platform for assessing the Army’s operations and ensuring continued effectiveness.

Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, had earlier said in a statement on Thursday, December 12, 2024 that the conference is designed to review successes, confront ongoing challenges, and chart a clear strategy for the coming year.

According to the statement: “Central to the discussions will be the development of a strategic roadmap for 2025, setting objectives and outlining plans to address Nigeria’s multifaceted security concerns.

“Senior officers will review the implementation of ongoing operations, training initiatives, and strategic directives that align with the Nigerian Army’s constitutional responsibilities.

“The conference will offer an opportunity to analyse the effectiveness of key security operations, including counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and anti-banditry campaigns.

“Detailed presentations on training, logistics, administration, and other critical areas will form part of the programme, showcasing achievements and exploring innovative strategies to enhance capabilities.

“These discussions aim to improve operational efficiency and ensure the welfare of troops. The conference will also include the presentation of Group Life Insurance benefits to families of personnel who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

“Attendees will include Principal Staff Officers, Corps Commanders, Formation Commanders, Operations Commanders, and Commandants from Army schools and Tri-service institutions.

“Senior officers in critical appointments across the services will also participate, fostering collaboration and sharing insights to strengthen the Army’s strategic framework.

“The event will conclude with the commissioning of the Nigerian Army Welfare Scheme project in Idu, Abuja, under the Affordable Housing Ownership Options for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) initiative, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to the well-being of its personnel. “
