Uromi Killings: Arewa Mayor Sues For Peace, Urges Government Action Following Edo Hunters’ Tragedy

The Mayor of Arewa, Alhassan Buba, has called for peace and unity following the recent tragic killing of hunters in Uromi, Edo State who were traveling to Kano from Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The incident, which has sparked outrage and sorrow across the country, has left many questioning the safety of travelers in the region.

In a statement he personally signed, Mayor Buba emphasized the importance of peace, stating that Islam teaches its followers to remain calm and peaceful, especially in times of crisis, urging citizens to refrain from violence and instead promote unity as the nation grapples with the aftermath of the killings.

“We must stand together in peace and let justice prevail. Our religion teaches us to approach such situations with calmness and seek unity, not division,” Buba remarked during a press briefing.

The Mayor also called on the federal and State governments to take immediate and decisive action to ensure that such incidents are prevented and does not occur again in the future in any part of Nigeria.

He urged authorities to intensify efforts to safeguard travelers and hold those responsible for the attack accountable.

“I call on the government to act swiftly and decisively. This tragedy must never happen again. It is the responsibility of the government to protect its citizens and bring those responsible to justice,” he added.

The killings of the hunters have shocked many and led to widespread condemnation especially across various Northern groups and communities.

Already, the Nigeria Police are investigating the incident, and the government has promised to address the concerns raised by the citizens.
