4 Farmers Killed By Armed Herders In Fresh Attack On Ajagbusi, Akure North LGA Of Ondo State

Four farmers have been killed in the ThirteenThirteen farming settlement in the Ajagbusi area of Ala Elefosan, Akure North Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State.

The latest attack, allegedly carried out by armed herders, occurred on Tuesday morning.

Residents said three of the victims were ambushed and shot dead on their way to the farm, while another person was killed two days earlier in a related incident.

The attack comes less than two weeks after five farmers were murdered in the Aba Oyinbo area of Akure North LGA, an incident that triggered public outrage.

In protest, residents carried the bodies of the deceased in a coffin to the governor’s office to demand justice.

Angered by the continued violence, irate youths staged another protest following Tuesday’s killings.

They transported the corpses of the slain farmers to the

Alagbaka Governor’s Office in Akure and barricaded the intersection leading to the government complex and the federal secretariat, effectively grounding vehicular and commercial activities in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, the traditional ruler of the Adeshina community, Taiwo Samuel, condemned the persistent attacks and accused the state government of failing to protect its citizens.

“Three farmers were killed this morning by herdsmen on their way to the farm. One was killed two days ago. We brought their bodies here so the government and the public can see the reality we are living in. These killings are too much,” Samuel said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, Alayande Olayinka, confirmed the attack during a phone conversation with Daily Trust.

Olayinka said tactical Police units had been deployed to the affected area to restore order, assuring that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
