The Federal Government has evacuated Nigerians who were “harassed and maltreated” by Togolese security personnel at the International Airport in Lome.
The evacuation came after videos emerged online showing about six security officials maltreating one of the victims at the Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport.
It was gathered that the victims, who were travelling from the United States of America via Ethiopian Airlines to Lagos, got to Lome but were told that their connecting flight was full and that they could not continue the journey.
They expressed their displeasure by trying to stage a protest but were overwhelmed and handcuffed by the violent security personnel.
The incident prompted the Nigerian Government to issue a directive to Nigeria’s Ambassador to Togo, Mr Debo Adesina, to secure a charter aircraft for their evacuation to Lagos.
The victims have since arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and have since been reunited with their families.
