The mass kidnapping of the schoolchildren and teachers occurred on May 15, 2026 when heavily armed bandits riding motorcycles launched coordinated raids on three schools in the Ogbomoso axis of Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The Presidential delegation visit come a day after Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, visited L.A. Basic School, Ahoro-Esiele where, alongside a delegation of government officials and political associates, commiserated and reassured families and relatives of the abducted teachers and pupils.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development and Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, who disclosed the arrival of the Presidential delegation in a post on his X handle on Sunday, said they proceeded to the affected communities shortly after arriving in Ogbomoso to assess the situation and coordinate federal response efforts.

The team is led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and includes the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Olatunji Disu; and Sunday Dare himself.

Dare said President Bola Tinubu had already activated coordinated security measures aimed at securing the release of the victims and tracking down the abductors.

“A powerful Presidential Delegation just arrived Ogbomoso en route to the villages of Esiele and Yawota where armed men simultaneously raided Baptist Nursery and Primary schools seizing about 46 pupils and teachers,” he wrote.

He added that the Federal Government was working with security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victims and the arrest of those responsible.
