Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on June 30, 2026 after troops of the 8 Division deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tidibale responded to reports of terrorist activities at Tagirke Village.

The sources said the troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to retreat from the village.

However, while withdrawing from the area, the troops ran into a well-coordinated ambush by the fleeing terrorists.

During the encounter, one of the military gun trucks struck an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in casualties among the troops.

According to the sources, two soldiers were killed in action, while three others sustained injuries.

The bodies of the fallen soldiers were evacuated to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) morgue in Sokoto, while the injured personnel were stabilised at the 8 Division Medical Services and Hospital.

The damaged gun truck was later recovered and towed back to FOB Tidibale for further action.

Military sources said troops have intensified efforts to track down the terrorists and recover the missing weapons while sustaining offensive operations across the area.
