Troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have convened a stakeholders’ engagement in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State as part of efforts to consolidate recent security gains and ensure a peaceful farming season across the area.
The engagement, held at the Headquarters of Barkin Ladi LGA on Thursday, brought together key security, government, traditional and community leaders to strengthen collaboration towards sustaining peace and preventing violence during the farming season.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folunsho Oyinlola, was represented at the meeting by the Chief of Staff, Operation Enduring Peace, Brigadier General MS Sule.
Also in attendance were the Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, traditional and religious leaders, representatives of security agencies operating within the local government, as well as community and youth leaders.
Speaking during the engagement, participants emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents in preserving the prevailing peace and preventing acts capable of undermining stability in the area.
The meeting focused on strategies to consolidate existing security gains, promote peaceful coexistence among farming and herding communities, and ensure that farmers carry out their agricultural activities without fear of violence or disruption.
As part of measures to support agricultural production and encourage residents to take advantage of the improved security situation, fertilisers were distributed to farmers in the local government area.
The gesture was described as part of broader efforts aimed at enhancing food production, improving livelihoods and reinforcing confidence among communities as the farming season progresses.
Stakeholders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with security agencies to sustain peace, promptly report suspicious activities and resolve emerging disputes through dialogue.
At the end of the engagement participants expressed optimism that continued collaboration would further strengthen stability and foster socio-economic development across Barkin Ladi and other parts of Plateau State under Operation Enduring Peace.
