Army warns of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists’ ambush, IED attacks, troops repel invasion of base, community in Northeast Nigeria

Nigerian troops have successfully repelled attacks by the Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) at a military base and a community in Borno and Yobe States respectively.

Sources said that the vigilant troops foiled an attempted attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists at a military base in Malam Fatori, Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

The terrorists had invaded the military base in gun trucks and motorcycles but were however subdued by troops who eliminated some of them while others retreated after a heavy gun battle.

Almost around the same time, military troops stationed in Yobe State also repelled another ISWAP attack at the Babangida community, with the terrorists pushed towards Jalingol village close to the Jauro axis in the State.

Sources however said that Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have ambushed Nigerian troops along the Dikwa-Marte road, Borno State, Northeast region of the country, killing about 20 soldiers.

Meanwhile, it emerged on Thursday that the Nigerian Army had warned its troops to be vigilant as the terrorists are planning more ambush attacks on troops in the Northeast region.

The Army also charged them to avoid Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted on the roads by the terrorists.

The warning following “unprecedented” attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP on Nigerian soldiers in recent weeks.

The Nigerian Army, in a memo, charged the troops to be more careful of movement around the area stating that the terrorists are planning more attacks along the Maiduguri-Monguno road.

It urged the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai to conduct air and land offensive operations and onslaughts on Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, specifically at Kukawa Primary School and Gudumbali in the Kukawa and Guzamala Local Government Areas of Borno State.
