3 Division/OPEP Troops Raid Gunrunners Hideout, Recover Weapon, Ammunition in Plateau State

Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), in the early hours of today September 15, 2025 raided the hideout of a notorious gunrunner at Kurra Berom Village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, recovering weapon and ammunition.

A statement by OPEP Spokesperson, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, said that the raid was part of the efforts by the 3 Division/OPEP to clampdown on gunrunners and to mop up illicit arms and ammunition from the hands of criminals and merchants of violence.

According to the statement: “In continuation of efforts to clampdown on gunrunners to mop up illicit arms and ammunition, in the early hours of 15 September 2025, troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) raided the hideout of a notorious gunrunner at Kurra Berom Village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.

“During the intelligence-based operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, 2 AK-47 magazines and 38 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) from the criminal hideout.  

“However, the criminals fled from the hideout prior to the operation. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing criminals.  

“Troops of 3 Division/JTF OPEP will continue to maintain aggressive posture and resistance against any form of criminality in the enhancement of national security within the Joint Operations Area.”
