A Derbyshire man who filmed himself raping a woman while she was asleep has been jailed for nine years for the “horrific” attack – and was described as a “dangerous sexual predator” by the officer who led the investigation.
Parry Bains carried out the horrific attack on the woman, who was known to him, in October 2022. When she woke up, Bains told her what he had done, and the next day she found a video he had filmed on her phone of him raping her.
She reported the incident to Derbyshire Police and Bains was arrested. After a police investigation, he was subsequently charged with rape in September 2023.
He denied the offence, but was found guilty after a trial at Derby Crown Court in October.
Detective Constable Claire Partridge, who led the investigation, said: “I’d like to commend the victim in this case for her bravery and thank her for the support she has provided throughout this investigation.
“I know it has been very difficult for her, particularly with it taking three years to now see this case to conclusion, but she has remained determined to ensure that Bains was brought to justice for his crimes and I hope that knowing he is now behind bars will provide her with some form of comfort and ability to begin rebuilding her life.
“Bains is clearly a dangerous sexual predator who simply cannot take no for an answer and his behaviour towards this woman was nothing short of horrific.
“The impact of his crimes will continue to affect her for years to come and my thoughts will remain with her as she looks to the future.
