Anambra: 3 Suspected IPOB/ESN Militants Neutralized Along Nnewi-Oba Road While Enforcing Sit-at-home

Security forces in Anambra State have successfully neutralized three suspected members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) while enforcing an illegal sit-at-home order along Nnewi–Oba Road.

Zagazola Makama gathered that on February 9, 2026 at about 2:00 a.m., the joint patrol team observed armed miscreants blocking roads near Akaboukwu, Uruagu, Nnewi.

Upon sighting the security operatives, the hoodlums opened fire. Officers and vigilantes engaged them in a gun duel, forcing the militants to flee into surrounding bushes.

Three of the suspects were neutralized during the encounter, while others escaped with bullet wounds along with their firearms.

Bodies of the neutralized militants, found with assorted native charms on their waist, hands, and necks, were evacuated, confirmed dead by medical personnel, and deposited at the morgue for autopsy and preservation.

The Anambra State Police Command affirmed that counter-terrorism and other crime prevention operations in the state will continue to ensure the safety of residents and prevent enforcement of unlawful directives.
