Troops Neutralise 3 Suspected Terrorists, Foil Herders’ Attack, Rescue Injured Vigilante In Plateau

Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have neutralised three suspected terrorists during an ambush operation at Karem village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 9:00 p.m. on April 2 following credible intelligence on the movement of armed men on three motorcycles heading towards the community.

The sources disclosed that troops swiftly mobilised and laid an ambush along the route leading into the village.

“Contact was made with the terrorists, and troops engaged them with superior firepower, resulting in the neutralisation of three of the assailants,” the source said.

He added that a follow-up exploitation of the scene led to the recovery of the bodies of the neutralised suspects.

However, no weapons or motorcycles were recovered, as fleeing members of the group were believed to have evacuated them during the encounter.

The source said efforts were ongoing to track and intercept the fleeing suspects, with troops maintaining high morale and operational readiness.

Meanwhile, troops of Sector 5 of OPEP have foiled an attack by suspected armed herders following a clash with vigilante members in Mandun Ruwi village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on April 2 after troops responded to a distress call over a confrontation linked to grazing on farmland.

The sources disclosed that upon arrival, troops engaged the assailants, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee the area.

During the operation, one injured vigilante with a gunshot wound was rescued and evacuated to Cottage Hospital, Bokkos, for medical attention.

Troops also recovered 89 cattle at the scene, which are currently in their custody pending further action.

Bokkos Local Government Area has witnessed recurring tensions between farmers and herders, with security agencies intensifying efforts to prevent escalation and restore normalcy.
