The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has fixed 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2026 academic session.
The decision was reached on Monday at the ongoing 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions in Abuja, with the Minister of Education, Tuniji Alausa, and stakeholders from various tertiary institutions in attendance.
However, Pan-Atlantic University adopted the highest minimum cut-off mark of 220, while several leading institutions fixed theirs at 200.
Among universities that adopted 200 are University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Benin and Covenant University.
Lagos State University and Lagos State University of Science and Technology fixed their cut-off marks at 195, while Lagos State University of Education adopted 185.
JAMB clarified that the released figures represent the minimum benchmark for admission consideration, noting that institutions can still set higher requirements for competitive courses such as Medicine, Law, Pharmacy and Engineering.
“The approved figures represent the minimum thresholds for admission consideration,” JAMB stated during the policy meeting.
Other major universities, including Ahmadu Bello University, University of Abuja and University of Ilorin adopted 180 as their minimum score.
Several institutions, including Bayero University Kano, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Osun State University fixed their cut-off marks at 160.
The development comes amid wider discussions on admission guidelines, quotas and policies for the 2026 tertiary admission exercise in Nigeria.
