Bauchi Police Confirm Killing Of 7, 6 Injuries, houses torched In Fresh Farmers/Herders Violent Clash

Seven people have been killed while six others were variously injured in a reprisal violent clash between farmers and Fulani herders in Lazai district, Darazo Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State. 

Bauchi State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement on Thursday evening on behalf of the Commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, however assured that normalcy has been restored in the affected villages, Lanzai and Dosho communities following the violent clash that resulted in loss of life and destruction of property.

According to the statement: “On 4th June 2026 at about 0920 hours, the Command received a distress report that suspected Fulani men attacked farmers who were applying local fertilizer on their farm at the outskirts of Lanzai, Lanzai Community, Darazo LGA. 

“In a reprisal attack, youths from Lanzai Community mobilized and proceeded to Dosho Village, a Fulani settlement, where they set fire to the entire area.

“In the process, not fewer than 50 huts were razed and several household goods were destroyed.

“The incident led to the death of Seven persons, while Six people sustained various degree of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at undisclosed health facilities.

“Extensive damage was also recorded on residential structures and personal belongings.” 

The Police Spokesperson stressed that “upon receipt of the report, tactical operatives were immediately deployed to the affected areas to restore law and order, prevent further escalation, and commence investigations.

“The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has been deployed as reinforcement to maintain peace, while patrols have been intensified in Lanzai, Dosho, and adjoining communities.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu,  has directed a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the incident.” 

The statement assured that perpetrators of the initial attack and those responsible for the reprisal will be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, further appealed to community leaders and residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. 

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring justice for all parties involved.
