Delta Sports Commission Chairman Urges Nigerian Youths to Embrace Sports

The Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Honourable Onoriode Joshua Onos Oborevwori, has urged Nigerian youths to actively participate in sports to promote healthy living, develop discipline, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Oborevwori said sports remained a powerful platform for youth empowerment, talent discovery, national unity, and economic growth, urging young Nigerians to make sporting activities part of their daily lives.

He noted that active participation in sports helps to build leadership, teamwork, resilience, and self-confidence while reducing the prevalence of crime, drug abuse, and other social vices among youths.

The chairman encouraged aspiring athletes to take advantage of sporting competitions and development programmes to showcase their talents, adding that many Nigerian sports stars began their careers through grassroots initiatives.

He also called on governments, educational institutions, the private sector, and community leaders to invest more in sports facilities and youth development programmes across the country.

According to him, sustained investment in sports will not only produce world-class athletes but also create employment opportunities and strengthen national cohesion.
