Suspected armed bandits attacked a joint team of police and soldiers near Daudu town in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State on Friday, killing four while a police inspector is still missing.

Zagazola Makama learnt from security sources that the incident, which occurred at about 12 p.m. on June 13, followed a report that a group of suspected armed herders was advancing toward a nearby settlement. Security forces were immediately mobilised to respond to the threat.

The sources said that the team fell into an ambush by the suspects which triggered a heavy exchange of fire. Afterwards, a Police inspector, Mohammed Yakubu, was reportedly missing.

Troops were subsequently deployed reinforcements into the bush, while additional police personnel arrived in Daudu. A search team later recovered the bodies of four personnel who paid the supreme price during the ambush.

The corpses were taken to the mortuary while that of the vigilante was handed over to his family for burial.

However, the search for the missing police inspector is still ongoing
