Police Arrests Kidnap Kingpin in Mpape, Abuja

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has arrested a suspected kidnap kingpin, Ya’u Shittu, following a raid by its Scorpion Squad in the Mpape area of the capital territory.

Mpape is a community off the Asokoro-Kubwa Expressway, Abuja.

Sources confirmed that the Police arrested Shittu, 27, a native of Kafanchan Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, at about 2:28 p.m. on June 13, 2025, after acting on actionable digital forensic intelligence.

A Police source in the FCT Command said Shittu was wanted in connection with a series of kidnapping cases within the FCT and its environs, including the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a Pastor in Mpape last year.

He said that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in two major kidnapping operations, the first in Katampe, where the suspects received a ransom of N10 million with Shittu personally pocketing N500,000 and the second at Shishinpe 1, a community in Mpape.

Shittu further named eight members of his kidnapping syndicate who are currently at large as Police sources said efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects and recover their operational weapons.
